The Silva lab ( https://www.jose-silva-lab.com ) investigates induced cell fate change for the creation of cell types of interest and is relocating to the recently established Guangzhou Regenerative Medicine and Health Guangdong Laboratory (GDL), a top tier Chinese research Institute with advanced research facilities located in the vibrant city of Guangzhou.

We are now seeking highly motivated and talented postdoctoral researchers to join us in applying induced cell fate change to applications in regenerative medicine, the creation of synthetic embryos for the study of early embryonic development in vitro and the understanding of the biology of developmentally regulated epigenetic processes such as X-chromosome inactivation. The Silva lab is a productive laboratory (Cell Stem Cell, 2018; Cell Stem Cell, 2019) with strong financial support and several available positions. These will provide an excellent opportunity for career development.

The projects will incorporate elements of stem cell, developmental biology and epigenetics. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the development of the project, work independently as well as collaboratively, organise and interpret their experiments, keep detailed records, communicate and present their data within the team and the Institute as well in international meetings.

Salaries are highly competitive and are supplemented by a generous allowance provided by the Guangdong province government of 200,000RMB/annum for two years. The positions will be available from the 1st of November 2020.

Desired qualification:

We are seeking self-driven postdocs with problem-solving skills, versatile and willing to learn and adapt to the needs of the project. Applicants should have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in Cell, Stem Cell or Developmental Biology, Computational biology,  epigenetics or similar discipline. Applicants should also have an exceptional publication record (first author publication is required). They should be able to work independently to drive their project but also have a collaborative approach, working productively in a team and contributing to a good social environment in the laboratory. Expertise in any of the following is highly desirable: early embryo manipulation, computational biology, tissue culture and molecular biology skills such as chromatin Immunoprecipitation, single-cell technologies and experience in CRISPR-Cas9 based technologies.

Key areas of Responsibility:

1.Carrying out high quality research

2.Planning and execution of research experiments

3.Keeping accurate and detailed records

4.Organising own work and working independently

5.Interacting and communicating with colleagues, giving and receiving feedback and training

6.Keeping detailed records

7.Written and oral presentation of work
